For me it's a tie between the class in copyediting I took before I entered
the field (took it as an adult continuing ed student) and my college English
Literature survey course. Our professor for that class was a tough old guy,
but very nice once you got to know him. He made us write papers that were
one page, single space, 10 pt. type, 1-inch margins. We learned to be
concise!! I think there were 10 papers a semester. We learned to write
quickly!!

Many, many other classes were useful, but perhaps people wouldn't consider
them directly useful. All the honors math courses I took (studied the
theorems and proofs, not just the basic math), my library science courses in
reference work (learned to ask questions!), the college algebra course, you
name it.

Good question, Robert! I'll be interested to see other people's responses.
