TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
What I do:
Write in English: I learned English by working in a pig farm in Southern Ontario when I was 16, and then by reading and watching TV.
Translate to French: I never took any translation class, a friend whose a translator showed me the basics.
Transition to XML doc: I have a B.Sc. in Computer Science, but I never heard about XML, HTML, javascript or any other language or tool (FrameMaker, Robohelp, Word, Trados) when I was in school.
I teach Lingo programming at night: I learned that language at work and never took any teaching class.
Globally, I did learn about communication and computers!
