Several things to realize:

1) People will NEVER use Word correctly. They will find a way to use the
best-designed templates in ways that you'd never imagined. They will break
the unbreakable, and ignore the obvious. There is no foolproof template -
the term is an oxymoron, much like "light beer."

2) Being the only person who knows how to do something is good.
Indispensability is a very good characteristic to foster in this current
job market, even if it's in an area that's not terribly rewarding.

3) Welcome the increased responsiblity, but triage your tasks based on
importance, as somebody else has already suggested.

Silly as it seems, I definitely feel my status as "Word guru" for my
company has helped me significantly. Yes, you can do more than be Tommy
Template. But if they need *somebody* to be Tommy Template, it might as
well be you. Particularly if your other skills are not as conspicuously
needed. It's a good thing to be a go-to person, even for something like
this. After all, not everybody in your company is probably concerned with
documentation, but I bet almost everybody there uses Word.
