Do you think it helps or hurts to alternate periods of captive employment with contracting and consulting?I think it matters far more what you do at each job than whether it's temporary or full-time. If you do essentially the same work for six years as a full-timer, then you risk looking as though you lack initiative. If you only do very small contracts and don't have the excuse of a poor economy, then you risk looking as though you lack self-discipline.
