Hi Chris,
Good question. Any conversion effort is complicated by inconsistencies in
the source material. This is true in the conversion of anything -- text,
data, or godless heathens. (Ha! I'm hilarious.)
If styles and formatting aren't consistent in the original files, there's a
certain amount of line-by-line clean-up that you'll have to do. Data
conversion folks call it "scrubbing". It's time-consuming.
Some tips...
You can remove any font or paragraph formatting that doesn't adhere to a
style definition: Select the entire document (Ctrl-A), then press
Ctrl-spacebar to remove font formatting, then press Ctrl-Q to remove
paragraph formatting.
Before starting the line-by-line cleanup, search the help for "Keyboard
Shortcuts". This topic might save a bout of repetitive strain disorder.
