I haven't taken your observations as slams, but as reasonable analysis of
the Techwr-l community. Any groups can benefit from reasonable and objective
analysis once in a while.
I am someone who has been a member for years but usually is in that horrible
"lurker" category. When I do respond to a thread it tends to be offline,
especially to newbies. I think that the Techwr-l community could benefit
from an individual review about our attitudes towards newbies. I have been
guilty of telling newbies about Techwr-l but warning them to not identify
themselves as newbies.
My concern is that our attitude towards newbies may also carry over into
other areas, such as in the workplace, where it has no validity. Asking the
question whether the attitudes we express in the Techwr-l community is
acceptable individually and/or in the group, is reasonable. IMHO
