I've done QA, been a business analyst, and a trainer, all before I became a technical writer. I think that if I ever left technical writing, I would want to return to training. That's probably why I get misty-eyed when someone asks me to write a user guide, online help, or a tutorial aroung here. Unfortunately, those projects are few and far between...
