I told my nephews two things before they went to college:
1. Work at a restaurant as a waiter. Tips are pretty good, and as a
young fella in college, free food is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

2. Take Rhetoric, and if they have multiple levels of it, take them.
This class prepared me for more work and life situations than any other
class I have ever taken.
