The worst I've experienced is Memphis. In July and August, the air turned
into a bog (of course, the city is a cesspool anyway, so no one noticed).

I lived in SA until I was 6, but I don't remember anything about the heat
there. The last year we spent in Texas (actually, living in a small
community called Schulenberg), there was a heat wave hot enough to melt tar.
I *do* remember that summer - you couldn't stay outside more than 5-10
minutes because it was hot enough to stop your breath...
