It can take up to 6 months to clear a prospective new
hire. Companies figure it's easier to just poach each
others' already cleared people. But considering the
defense industry's long history of laying off at the
drop of a hat (or contract), unless there's a full-on
Reagan-era defense spending boom going on, it seems to
me that someone who feels reasonably secure in his/her
current position would be crazy to jump ship.
