Well, who are the people you've been asking? Are they
tech writers? Do they enjoy being tech writers, or do
they wish they'd taken a different path in life?
You job, any job, is what you make of it. If you're
not enjoying what you are doing, it's time to sit
back, pour a tall cold one, and think about what you
really want out of life and what you want to be doing.
I don't find being a tech writer boring at all. Sure,
there are days when I'm pouring over the same content,
fixing things like grammar or re-taking screen shots
(have SnagIt, will rule the world... right Dan?).
But, others might see this as a boring job, sure.
Those who don't do it and think it's boring don't know
what goes into the job or why we do it. Those who do
the job and think it's boring probably aren't doing
the job right in the first place.
As with any job, it's a gamble. Figure out what you
want and what you enjoy doing, then do it.
