George Miller's original research has been reproduced in many different ways
and has statistically reliable findings. The 7 +/- 2 is not necessarily
related to syllables, words, or numbers, but more chunks of information that
the brain classifies as a unit, which can mean anything from a single
character to an entire concept.

Just because something is unfamiliar doesn't mean that it is invalid.

Understanding how the brain works is part of understanding how to make
things usable, which is part of our job.
