Another reason to avoid putting samples on your Web site: Giving your
potential client more information gives them more to object to. This is true
of many markets. A software company that leads its sales effort with a
screen shot and a list of features is playing in to the hands of skeptical
buyers who are just itching to say no.

Instead, bulid a great site, include the best reference stories you can get
from past clients, and write content that calms their fears and anxieties
about hiring a designer. Demonstrate that you understand their position, and
that you can be trusted. Then you can start the conversation that gets you
the gig! (You can always send samples later in the selling process.)
