If it hasn't already been made clear by the most recent responses and a
summary glance at the years of debate in the archives, neither **technical
skills** nor "our profession" can be defined with any succinct clarity.

There's nothing particularity cutting edge about getting descriptions and
instructions on paper. There may be some advances in organising them.
There have certainly been revolutions in how to present them.

What do you consider "cutting edge"? perhaps with that response others
whose careers are in the same direction may be able to give better
guidance than the generalised pot-shots the list at large is likely to
give.
