For those positions needing more experience in documentation than you offer, perhaps you'd point the list to them? I am sure more than a few of us would be willing to move!

As for your questions, there is *always* more training you can get! At this point, from your description, your biggest need is for the moxie needed to pursue the gigs. Get your samples together of what you've done and apply! In many cases, while they ask for a bachelor's degree, they also will accept equivalent experience.

Also, your graphics background is a definite plus! That is an area often in fairly short supply among doc departments, at least in my experience.
