Well, the way I understood it, you wouldn't have paid for the demo, you just had paid for your technical means to take part. Not much different from buying a ticket to travel to a trade show, really.
Oh, it's substantially different. Air fare to a trade show, plus hotel room, plus registration for the show (which can run to a couple thousand dollars if it's an association conference in addition to a trade exhibition) is a whole lotta different from the cost of a one-hour long distance phone call. I think it's friendlier to subsidize the call with a toll-free number, because that is insignificant compared to the cost of preparing and hosting a webinar; but I don't think the cost of the calling in for an hour is going to break anyone, either, especially someone who is prepared to pony up for your software.
