Hey, if she's this person's friend, it is her business! I wouldn't want to
see my company get ripped off (and that affects me as an employee and it is
therefore my business) and I wouldn't want to see a friend get fired for
doing it. Moreover, if she ends up having to pull extra weight around the
office because her friend is only doing three days' worth of work instead of
five days', then it's her business as well. There are only two tech writers
in that office? You'd better believe if one of them is taking 120 "extra"
hours off that it's going to have an effect on the other person.

It's easy enough to talk to the friend without accusing her....tell her you
heard a rumor that there was someone who was not putting their hours on
their timecard correctly and that the company is going to start auditing
timecards, or something similar.

Talk to someone in HR or management (without naming names) and tell them
that you suspect that someone isn't charging their time correctly. They
might be able to put out an e-mail to the company as a "reminder".
