TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Would that it was an actual attempt....as it happens, I was simply
interested in what gives others the right to judge one company's policy,
without being directly affected by it. Yes, conceptually, "working
conditions for tech writers" is a valid topic of discussion; however, I
doubt "finding flaws in X Corp's policies" is.
-------------
BG: I wasn't "finding flaws" in the company's policies; I think it's a
wonderful policy! Perhaps it was a poor choice of words on my part. I suppose
"odd" has a negative connotation, but I didn't mean to make a commentary on
it.
___________
As for "lucky to be working" -- not going there, but will say "luck"
itself is virtually irrelevant. I'll be happy to help you waste more of
the day in fruitless back-and-forth offlist.
__________
BG: I am talented and industrious -- a good employee -- and I haven't even
seen jobs for which I am well-qualified. However, just today a staffing
company that specializes in editorial people left me a message, and I hope to
speak with them soon. So, things may be looking up. True, luck isn't really
relevant, but that's just a way of saying that the economic climate is a
factor. I guess I'm not very good with words. ; )
