I could see this as something that could help technical support troubleshoot, if people shared their computers, or people even just borrowed someone's computer to log in with your application briefly. Someone may call up and say their application doesn't look right - having something that says what user is logged in could help people remember to log out, that this is their personal configuration, and help people realize if they're logged in as a different user.

At a university I worked at, the students would need to sign in to use the computer, but didn't always remember to sign out. There was a small icon that said you were signed in, but didn't say who you were. One person would leave, the next student would come, and would wonder why their password didn't work for their email, not realizing they were logged in as someone else.

So I made the suggestionlast week "I just realized, in most places in [our

somewhere in the top pane.)"

My manager, who is Marketing Director (yeah, I know....), and who has shared
my passion for creating usable products, wrote this response: "And what is
the benefit of the user knowing who they are?"

This is something that I've beleivedso useful that I've never questioned it,
and so when it is now questioned, I'm having trouble quantifying an answer.
