Much of the "cover letter" seems fine to me--but I'd remove the "desperation" for sure. Unless the new employer is extremely large in number of employees, I also believe he might be seeking a "...forward-looking team."
Thus: "I saw your recent employment ad online--and I could easily be the precise person you're looking for! I want this job. I'm seeking a place where I can hang my hat, lose my umbrella, and apply my writing skills to a dynamic and forward-looking team."
Seriously, you should be aware that a large number of HR people are now scanning resumes with automated software as the initial method of reducing the numbers they must deal with. Therefore, the application package should include *every* "buzzword" that is in the position listing! (I presume that all of these terms apply to your "cow-orker"--otherwise, I would work in a mention of all that are not presently applicable: "I have developed a serious interest in the 'Extreme Programming' software development methodology as it is being used by your development team.")
I hope this helps!
