While you "can" read it, it takes an increased cognitive load. First and
last letters are key components to a word's shape, which is largely how we
make out words. Shaking up the letters inside alters the word shape.

Did that researcher care only about comprehension, or was reading speed
studied as well? I'll bet the reading speed goes down.

And on the subject of writing standards, a friend just last week forwarded
the following piece of levity:

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer
in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is
taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae.

The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit
porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by
istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

F<censored> amzanig huh?
