Dana,
The difficulty which is so often ignored in the logic of Microsoft apologists is that persistant problems with software quality that continue over a period of many years--and answered by PR rather than effective change--indicates a systemic problem and not one simply of "we all make mistakes!"
In my view, Microsoft insists upon perpetuating many of the fundamental *causes* of security and quality problems. Rather than understanding that interactivity creats security nightmares, they continue to introduce *more* interactivity between their applications and their operating systems.
Additionally, the fundamental architecture of the present Windows products is flawed--based upon designs done many years ago which make it virtually impossible to make any updates that correct the problem they are designed for without also affecting other parts of the system.
Add to that the absolute arrogance they display so commonly, and it is no wonder that people complain.
It would be quite another thing, I believe, if they simply made a conscious decision to acknowledge problems honestly and seek to correct them rather than use their various strategies ("It's not a bug, it's a feature!").
