You say this again and again, but where is the evidence for this?

There comes a point in an application's "lifetime" when devoting
resources to support or issue upgrades for that version aren't cost-
effective. It costs the manufacturer more time and money and resources
to support something like Word 6 than they want to devote.
To expect a company to support a product for your lifetime is a little
naive. Otherwise some of us would still be driving '49 Hudsons.
