Another Whrler said your boss must think highly of you to saddle you
with this load. I agree. If your boss didn't think you were up to snuff,
someone else would be doing this daunting task. If it were me, I might
take the opportunity to learn Russian. I know it is a very difficult
language to learn because a close friend of mine learned it when he
adopted a Russian girl a few years ago.
By learning some basic Russian, you would be able to speak with the
Russkie engineers and might be able to get some better information for
the documentation. It is likely that they will see your effort, and they
will try to make their English communication skills better. But, I may
just be in the Land of Oz too, because after all, they are engineers!

I am not sure what the rest of the board thinks, but IMHO, I would try
and pick up a little Slavic in an attempt to make the whole situation
better.
