Has anyone used PDF Converter or OmniPage from ScanSoft? I haven't bought either yet but they supposedly convert PDF documents to an editable Word document - or other formats. In your case, convert the file, do the indexing in Word and zap it back to PDF. OmniPage will supposedly even convert PDF files created from scanned documents to editable text. I haven't used either product but plan to acquire them fairly soon. PDF Converter is cheap - 50 bucks, and OmniPage is not too bad either.
