Actually, I had a devious thought. The India offer is the perfect offer to
COMBAT jobs going overseas. After you've been in India for a year, you'd know
all the pitfalls and problems involved with contracting to such a distant
locale.
You could then use that knowledge and experience to consult with US/Canadian
techwriting firms to help them gain more work, or you could open up you own shop
with the knowledge gained about the competition.
Or if you enjoy travelling, you could be set for life as a consultant travelling
around the world to set-up far flung offices. Just make sure that you don't
accumulate wealth in India. You can't bring it back with you.
