I would suggest re tools that anyone looking for a good, easy, cheap (i.e. free) diagram and
illustration program try out OpenOffice.org's Draw. (www.getopenoffice.org/download.html) It's like
Canvas or Corel, with Visio connector lines thrown in, which are great for diagrams. Plus you can output
to nearly every vector and raster format under the sun.
It's so much easier than Illustrator. I'm sure there are reasons I should learn Illustrator but I
haven't found one yet -- I do lots of funky stuff in Draw in addition to nice solid diagrams.
- Diagrams: see www.techwriterstuff.com/diagramexample.jpg (just a few features thrown together; all
fills, lines, line ends and other things are user definable)
- Funky stuff: see http://www.getopenoffice.org/banner.gif (not quite perfect but user error, not
program error)
