There is also the indirect exporting of jobs when the audience is offshored.
I used to write internal documentation for AMD fab workers. A large part of
why I got laid off (a year ago this Friday I just realized) was that AMD is
moving all of its manufacturing overseas (the assembly is already there). An
English-speaking technical writer is not much use when the target audiences
are in Germany, Malaysia, and Singapore.
