Since Writer is probably of most interest to people on this list, let me
brag a moment and provide a link to my opinion on how it compares to Word: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=7120

Hi Bruce,
In that article, you wrote: "In MS Word, editing styles is like drilling for
oil in the Mariana Trench: by the time you finish the descent through the
menus, you're down so deep that you can get the bends trying to remember
what you started to do. By contrast, Ooo offers a floating palette called
the Stylist. Repositionable anywhere on the screen, the Stylist not only
makes the application of styles more convenient, but it makes the editing
and creation of styles a single right-click away."
Floating palettes are for mouse users. Nothing personal, some of my best
friends use mice. But for those of us who like to keep our hands on the
keys, floating palettes don't cut it. Office XP and Windows XP have
unfortunately upped the mouse ante, but you can still use them with the old
keyboard shortcuts. So, can I have tons of fun in Ooo without
right-clicking?
Thanks,
Dan Goldstein
P.S.: Any advanced Word user who prefers the (uggh) mouse can create a
floating toolbar with buttons for style functionalities. No Mariana
required.
