Subject:Is it Kosher to chat up future bosses/co-workers? From:MList -at- chrysalis-its -dot- com To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Wed, 19 Nov 2003 17:06:35 -0500
We were recently acquired, and I had to make some quick
changes in my docomentation -- tools and output -- to match
our new owners' standards, work methods, etc.
The timing was a bit inconvenient with respect to a big
project that we had under way. Chatting with the fine
folks who are now my new co-workers a few weeks earlier
might have made the transition a bit less frenetic.
So, we're being acquired *again* (so soon that we're not
even bothering to update our business cards :-).
Would it be improper to seek out my likely-soon-to-be new
co-workers for a little informal chatting about tools and
working methods, before the deal goes through? Both the
buyer and buyee are publicly traded companies. You can
assume that no insider-trading knowledge is contemplated
(none of it filters down to my cube)....
just the kind of job-specific stuff we talk about in this list
every day, but specific to our two corporate documentation
departments (that will become one, sometime early next year).
I really don't know. I've never been through the being-bought
process before this summer, so I'm unclear on the etiquette
and the proprieties (if any).
I've got three vacation weeks that I *must* use up before
the new year, or I lose 'em, so that would be a fine interval
in which to learn a new tool or two, and sort out new
templates. Thus my time-limited, possibly precocious interest.
Also, if it *is* kosher to have a wee chat with our
soon-to-be's, would it be proper to seek them out via this
list? If your web-site says you are about to merge with Rainbow,
you know who you are. :-)
