Scott,
Before becoming a technical communicator I was a physics teacher and lab assistant. During that time, I got involved in teaching as well as compiling and writing the lectures and lab sheets. It was then that I discovered the joy of loving what you are doing and trying to convey it in a simplified way to others. My "customers" were then my students and when I saw their faces light up when they understood a concept that they thought was too hard, that was my greatest reward. I then discovered that I love to help people and the way I can do it is by understanding the subject matter and conveying it in a simple way.
Hope that helps your article

Okay, the last post in my series of probing questions... I'm writing an
article about technical communication and wanted to toss this question out
for a few responses.
If you had another career before you became a technical communicator, what
was it and why did you decide to pursue technical communication?
Thanks in advance for you help.
