Re: Dictionary
Just a heads up...I was wandering through my local
Barnes&Noble retail store and I came across the "Webster's
New Universal Unabridged Dictionary" 2nd edition for $19.95
ISBN 0-7607-4975-2
It's actually published by Barnes&Noble.
And as a dictionary aficionado, my personal opinion is that it's an off-brand dictionary at any price. Some of us are in the Meriam-Webster camp. Some are in the American Heritage camp. Some insist on the OED. There are even some fans of the Random House, the New World, and a few others. But I've never heard anyone mention the Webster's New Universal. That's not to say it isn't a truly fine dictionary that will meet the needs of any writer; it's just to say that if you get into a pissing match with your boss about the spelling of some word, you're probably going to want to be using a dictionary your boss has heard of.
