Subject:Re: Is an HCI just a kind of HMI? From:dan -dot- charles -at- tyson -dot- com To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 22 Dec 2003 08:07:46 -0700
Mark,
I suspect a vendor driven or school of thought rationale going on here
(The engineers, developers, and certain user groups use HMI to refer to
computer based controls), and with that in mind the nomenclature is
probably arbitrary.
You would be better off focusing on what your audience(s) calls the
device. You may also want to determine if the name shifts during an
activity, or from one audience to the next and adapt accordingly. I would
be inclined to steer all audiences toward one name to avoid confusion not
just in the documentation, but during communication between the audiences.
Thanks,
Dan Charles
