Interestingly, I did have to go to arbitration, long before I became a
realtor. We were buying a house and it fell through. The documents we
signed were so poorly written that the arbitrator ruled in our favor because
he - a law professor - couldn't figure them out himself. The company used
non-standard forms, incidentally. The rep for the builder admitted to me
later (it was all rather amicable) that they sort of just copied stuff from
other forms and never had a lawyer look them over.
In other words, no SME. (That was a futile attempt to associate this to
tech writing.)
