Subject:Contract vs. Permanent Employment From:"Johnson, Mike (MED, OEC)" <Mike -dot- Johnson -at- med -dot- ge -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 22 Mar 2004 10:53:22 -0600
Greetings from a Sunny and Warmer Salt Lake City
I've had a "permanent" job for almost 7 years now, an all-time record for
me. I write service manuals for medical X-ray equipment. Prior to my
current position, I worked permanent and contract jobs, writing service
manuals for computers, airplanes, microwave gear, and other medical devices.
Since nothing lasts forever, I am wondering what the current market is like
for a hardware writer like myself. I prefer shorter-term contracts (under a
year) if there is such a thing any more.
What say ye? I will summarize for the list.
