Word frames have two advantages that I know of over text boxes, especially
in headers/footers:

1. Unlike text boxes, frames can be defined as an attribute of a style. If
your frame is defined in a style, you can reposition all your frames using
style commands. Or, for example, you could create a style called "Sidehead"
that implements an actual sidehead using Word frames.

2. Frames can be defined as aligned relative to the page, paragraph, or
margin, or column. So if you define a frame in a header/footer aligned to
the right, the frame will be on the right margin in landscape as well as
portrait pages. That way you can use the same header/footer for the entiire
document, which is a much better solution than the various "Insert section
break" schemes for creating headers/footers.
