The president of our school turned out to be a tad
bit optimistic; out of 550 freshmen, we graduated a
class of 101.

OTOH, a common bit of advice I got from many engineers
and former engineers when in school went, "Get your
degree, but don't remain an engineer all your life;
use engineering as a stepping stone to better positions."
