::: Sounds good, Bill. Your thoughts on approaches are all
::: reasonable, and sound.
:::
::: Unfortunately, the "mommyfication of management" is
::: alive and well. Managing using the "stick and stick
::: approach is alive and well, in allegedly modern
::: companies as well as the blue-suit ones.
:::
::: I like your thoughts and approach but, sometimes, it
::: just ain't so.
Right... Sometimes... :)
I dunno... I don't like over-generalizations. They don't seem to drive the
point home like good ol' facts or honesty. I can understand Edwin's apparent
frustrations, but really, he made the argument no more fair than the one
that was probably presented to him by his own remote manager. (I can only
assume he had some kind of falling out or confrontation by the nature of his
post.)
Taking all this aside, let's not forget some very fundamental truths:
"manager" /= "leader"
and
Not all managers are or will ever be effective leaders. (and no, that is not
an over-generalization *g*).
