I have tested several of these programs. Although I don't have the latest version 7, I do have Dragon 6 Preferred. 
  
I think it depends largely upon how disciplined you might be in using it and how you work. In my case, I am blessed with a clear speaking voice, for example, and it is not a difficult thing for me to adjust to speaking with a distinct separation between words. With these two elements, you can do a surprisingly good job of creation with Dragon. 
  
Very soon, I will begin writing a novel--and I intend to use this for much of the writing work. On the other hand, I doubt I would use it for tech writing, because my speed and style of work is quite different.
