I agree that language changes over time. But the usages of different words
change at different times and at different rates - and the difference is
compounded by geography. I'd have no problem writing "forums", but I
wouldn't countenance a singular "criteria". Not right now, anyway, and with
the re-stated qualification that I'm talking about British English.
Honestly, it jars too badly.
I think the best solution would be to find an alternative term that your
whole readership is most likely to be comfortable with.
