Dan the technical writer was standing in his hardware store, trying to
pick out a paint color.
A woman shopping near him said, "This is so hard - there are too many
options. I just want plain red, or blue, or green. Not these shades
of Summer Memories, Sun-kissed and Mossy Oak."
"I disagree," Dan said. "I like having a lot of options. For
instance, just look at SnagIt, the leading screen capture software.
It's so much more than screen capture - it has a built-in Editor for
annotating and modifying your images. It has a Catalog Browser that
allows you to view and organize your files, as well as change them in
batches, instead of individually. And it has SnagIt Studio, which
lets you add shapes and stamps."
He continued, "Sure, I have all SnagIt's simple options at my
fingertips, but I can also take advantage of the more sophisticated
options as well - and there are so many of them!"
He held up a stack of paint sample sheets. "This rainbow of colors is
like the rainbow of options in SnagIt. We should be happy with our
myriad choices."
She smiled as she considered his statement. "So what color are you
buying?" she said.
"Actually," he said, "I'm combining Pure Satisfaction with Harmonious
Day . . . and I'm naming the new shade . . . SnagIt."

Over the last 3 years,
no matter what you contributed,
your job (psyche?) may have been
downsized, outsourced, forced out,
let go, cut back, replaced, terminated,
resigned, rationalized, made redundant,
fired, pink-slipped, laid off, drawn down,
scaled back, new directioned, or attritioned
-- or otherwise chopped and diced. But if you
don't expand your energies, it may happen again.
