TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I think the point here is the fact that it's going to
become more necessary to be aware of and to address
"the vision thing" in order to get the job. In the
past, companies have paid lip service to some touchy-
feely blue sky "vision," but increasingly, company
"visions" are being brought down to earth and tied to
things like return on investment, cost/benefit and
market share. Relate your ability as a direct-hire,
temp or vendor to contribute to this and you improve
your prospects for a successful interview or sales
call. I suspect that this is something that most
independent contractors either already know or have
just learned to do automatically, but it may be a new
concept for some people "just trying to get a job."
