Comments like "you cannot reproduce the problem" sound awfully like there is
a difference in the installations between your machine and theirs. Note that
Windows 2000 and Windows XP didn't exist when HTML Help was developed, so
unexpected behavior is highly likely. Have you matched Service Pack Versions
for the OS's? Microsoft have updated the HTML help (actually IE) components
several times between OS's and SP's and hot-fixes, especially due to
security reasons. A small difference may be the source of your problem/s.
See http://www.helpware.net/htmlhelp/hh_info.htm.
1. HTML Help does not natively support a glossary tab, which was created by
RoboHelp manipulating the HTML Help API, so any problem with this tab MUST
be a problem with RoboHelp, and not that of HTML Help. Check that the
RoboHelp script files are included with the compiled help, and are
registered properly on the client's machine (previous versions updated and
not set to read-only).
2. The runtime error debug option only crops up when the client has an
appropriate debug tool installed. Ensure you have the same, or you may be
missing the debug messages which they're getting. Many are innocuous and
don't affect the HTML display by IE and HTML help, so can be safely ignored,
however, if IE doesn't like the error, and if set to do so, will always
popup this error message. To inhibit this message on the Client machine, in
IE, deselect "Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Browsing, Display a
notification about every script error", or identify which part of your
script is causing the error and remedy it.
3. Have you tried pre-compiling the full text search file by selecting the
appropriate option? It may save the time taken to recompile on the client
which causes the display of the unwanted dialog?
Sorry I couldn't be more informative, but I chose to discontinue use of
RoboHelp 2000 when it displayed more faults and problems than advantages.
Colin Ramsden.

Subject: RoboHelp Questions
Hello!
I have several Robohelp issues for which I cannot seem to find an answer. I
hope that by tapping into the great brain trust here at Techwr-L I might be
able to solve these problems.
The first important thing to note is that I am unable to recreate any of
these errors. My client has these errors repeatedly in the compiled Help
file I gave them, but I cannot create these errors at home. I have run the
compiled Help file on three machines, only one of which already has RoboHelp
installed. My client is running XP, but I have tested the file on Win XP
and 2000.
By client request, I am using RoboHelp v8.0 (or RH 2000) for HTML Help.
Here are my three issues:
1. On my client's machines, the glossary is missing. We are using the same
.CHM file, yet I can see and access the Glossary through the Glossary tab.
Their glossary tab is empty.
2. When my clients click on a link that goes to a popup, a small error
dialog box appears that says
A Runtime Error has occured.
Do you wish to debug?
Line: 0
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method.
3. The help file is small to medium in size and uses the Search tab when
compiled. When a user enters a word into the Search tab, the Searching ...
dialog box appears fleetingly. Incredibly fleetingly. It's so quick (like a
tenth of a second if that) that it looks more like something is wrong with
the Help, as the dialog isn't legible. It took me forever to figure out what
it even said.
Is there a way to disable this dialog box? My clients are greatly disturbed
by this and want the dialog box gone.
Please feel free to email me apart from the list. Thanks so much for any
input you may have.
