Since when did my company hire another technical writer?
Best thing to do is to go to your boss and present what you can do in
that time. You can probably get a "basic operations" manual out in that
time, but not much else.
I would also explain to my boss - and later follow up in an email with
all the numbers right there on a computer screen - how much time is
usually allowed ("most technical writers need blah blah days for every
blah function of the blah blah blah that is being documented") for a
writer to complete tasks for a manual. I'd also be sure to find out why
you've been made the rear end of the project and left out of any
planning.
