You might want to take a look resources such as the Project Management Institute (http://www.pmi.org/info/default.asp), and current authorities on Six Sigma processes (too numerous to list). I'm not an expert, but many, many people here live and die by Six Sigma, which references quite a bit in the way of process and workflows on the way to quality.

both automated and conditional activities. Processes, transitions,
events... that sort of thing.
