Yes, Diane, I am in the US. I'm certainly hoping to
avoid anything litigious, but your advice is
well-taken. I think the best thing for me to do is
address my vendor first. I will then offer speak to
the client and offer any effort required to keep the
project rolling while they find a replacement. I'm
going to use the "misunderstanding" angle suggested by
one of our techwr-l peers.

The other option is to keep working and wait till they
fire me. I completely agree with your reasons for
doing that in your previous position (and things
worked out well for you!) but I'm not comfortable with
doing that.

Thanks so much, everyone, for all your advice!

- Felice

I just was wondering...Felice, are you in the United
States? If so, your clause to have to pay for
quitting a job may be illegal. You might want to
check with an attorney.

I had a job two years ago that went bad very quickly
-- for reasons that had nothing to do with my skills
or misrepresentations at the job interview. I knew
that if I quit, I wouldn't get unemployment without a
battle (proving that I was working in a woman-hostile
environment),so I just did the minimum work required
until the woman-hostile manager laid me off. I had
contacted my contract agency a month before the layoff
happened and documented what was going on. Two months
later, I landed my current dream job.
