James Taylor says that his original lyrics to a couple of the songs on his
October Road CD were stolen from his hotel room. He had to write them both
again from scratch, and he says he'll always have this nagging feeling that
the originals were better than the redo's, but he'll never really know.

In the preface to Lake Wobegon Days, Garrison Keillor tells how he once lost
his two best short stories during a train trip. One of the lost stories was
his first tale about Lake Wobegon. He writes:
"I brought in Lake Wobegon as the home of a weekly monologue, hoping that
one Saturday night, standing on stage, I would look into the lights and my
lost story would come down the beam and land in my head. Eleven years later,
I am still waiting for it."
