I venture to say that responding by how bad MS documentation is a waste of
time even if true. But perhaps the open source community could recruit
English majors to write documentation. And if you can get an English major
to understand the functionality you can probably get anybody to. (they are
smart, just not technical) Also, by giving their names prominent display
some may even volunteer.

John, I'm a psych major with an English minor, and I've not only been
a technical writer since the term was coined, but was promoted to a business
analyst in an IT company years ago and still do that today.
You have good thoughts there, but your broad brush is bit distracting. :-)
