According to this requirement:

John, I think your marketing department overestimates the
resolution impact on color printing quality.

As far as we are talking about "color" laser printing (even in the high
end range) printing quality about 400 dpi is mainly defined by the size
and shape of CMY-toner particles - not by the physical resolution of the
hardware (laser/LED). Only in the case of a single color process
(e.g. black for text) a higher resolution of about 1200 dpi leads to a
better quality (sharper characters and lines...)

I've never heard that 2400 dpi resolution is a main requirement in the
evaluation process of a professional highend color printer. Be aware that
you are evaluating a "complete color printing solution" not just hardware with
technical data...

IMHO: Concerning the toner technology, CANON is a little bit leading
against XEROX. With the hardware both companies are at the same
professional level.
