Re: Calling all "Lead Writer" or "Information Architects" -- what do you do?
I'm interested in how people function as a lead writier or IA. What are
your primary responsibilities? How do you add value to your tech pubs
team?
I'm not leading anyone right now, but I have done so many times in the past. I'm a firm believer that a manager should be doing the work that he or she is managing. That may not always be possible, but being a hands-on type of manager is the only way I know to keep from getting out of touch.
As an aside, let me stress that there are no "Information Architects" on this list - not really. You're only an information architect if you design databases and the like. If you structure technical documentation, you're a writer or possibly an editor.
